Things to do in Falmouth the week of August 13 to August 21
Welcome to Falmouth! Here are a few suggestions for things to do this week; we hope you enjoy your stay in beautiful Falmouth!
First, a quick reminder - our office has moved. We were to the right of Cape Cod Pack and Ship, we are now to the LEFT of them. There are signs on the old office to direct you - its only about 50 feet away from the old office, and in the same building.
NOTE: Sunday August 15 is the Falmouth Road Race! Falmouth will be particularly packed on Saturday and Sunday August 14 and 15. Please plan accordingly. We strongly suggest that even though your rental doesn't start until 3pm, that you get to town early - even in the morning if possible! We can give you your keys as early as 9am, and you can then go hit the beach until your rental starts.
Here are some general things you can do this week, and below are more specific items for individual days of the week:
Bike the Shining Sea Bike Path. In 2009, Falmouth opened another 7 miles of the Shining Sea Bike Path, it is now 11 miles long, and goes from North Falmouth to Woods Hole. Along the way you will see marshes, dunes, bogs, both Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound, beaches, ice cream shops, much more. It truly is one of Falmouth’s gems. There are multiple places to rent bikes if you didn’t bring them – or, just go for a stroll! Here is a great place to rent a bike, right off the bike path
Take in all that Woods Hole has to offer. The world famous village of Woods Hole is a true delight. Lots to see and do. The aquarium is great fun during the week (not open on weekends) for the kids. Aquarium info available at http://www.aquarium.nefsc.noaa.gov/
Grab a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. Falmouth has three ferries to Martha’s Vineyard, two of which leave right from convenient Falmouth Harbor. No need for a car on the island, but like Falmouth, MV has great bike paths. Check out Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven and Edgartown, or any of the smaller villages or beaches! Martha’s Vineyard is a must day trip for everyone who has never been. Ferry info, including schedules and rates, is available at www.falmouthhomes.com/falmouth.asp
NEW FOR 2010: Our office has exclusive discount vouchers for the Island Queen Ferry! If you would like a discount voucher (good for up to 5 adults, it is $2 off the $18 round trip ticket), please make sure to ask us when you are here.
Nantucket. The ferry to Nantucket leaves from Hyannis, which is about 40 minutes away. If you only have one day to explore an island, stick with MV. But if you have extra time, Nantucket is such a great island, and such a great village. Again, no need for a car.
Beach! Falmouth has 68 miles of coastline, and much of it is town owned beaches. Any day there is good weather, try one of our wonderful beaches! If you are walking or biking, put away your wallet, there is no fee. But if you drive, you will need to pay to park. Most lots are $10 each, several are $20 (Old Silver for example).
Boats! Falmouth has many opportunities to go boating, from renting jet-skis, to private fishing and cruising charters, to being pampered on a luxury, restored sailboat like the Liberte, which has daily sailings where you pay per person. They also have Sunday Champagne sailings. Liberte info available at http://www.theliberte.com/
Main St. Falmouth’s Main Street is amazing. Lots of shops, restaurants, bars, parks, more. Enjoy a lazy afternoon taking it all in.
Plimouth Plantation. A short (30 minutes with no traffic) drive away is Plimouth Plantation in Plymouth Mass. If you are from New England there is a good chance you have been there (school field trip maybe?) but if you are not from the area, it is worth a day trip to see the 17th Century English Village, where all the staff stays in character the entire time. Cape Cod Children’s Museum in Mashpee is a fun way to spend a rainy afternoon, if we get one. It is ideal for kids 3-10 or so. http://www.capecodchildrensmuseum.org/
Movie Theaters. At Mashpee Commons (plays current hits), also the Nickelodeon, which plays more artsy fare. But don’t forget the Falmouth Cinema Pub, where you can get a good meal, some wine and beer etc while watching current hit movies! Cinema pub info available at www.falmouthcinemas.com/

The following are specific items that can only be done on specific days of the week, these are things you might not have otherwise found out about in time to enjoy. Not every day has a specific thing to do, we do add items when we hear about them:
Mondays: Lobster on the Lawn! Saint Barnabas Church (at the Village Green) offers $15 lobster rolls (drink, chips, pickle included) every Monday 5-7pm in July and August. Kids under 10 eat (PB&J) for free. Great family night. Click here for the poster.
Tuesdays: Shuckers World Famous Raw Bar in Woods Hole continues their Tuesday night 2 for 1 lobster dinner tradition. A great way to sit right on the water and get a wonderful, affordable meal in true Cape Cod tradition! http://www.woodshole.com/shuckers/
Wednesdays: 5pm to 8pm. Coonemesset Farm’s Jamaican Buffet, 277 Hatchville Road, East Falmouth. 508 563 2500 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 508 563 2500 end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 508 563 2500 end_of_the_skype_highlighting Featuring great food, including some of the best Jerk Chicken and Pork you will ever have! Live Steel Drum music, live animals, and it is BYOB, so pick up a favorite bottle of wine or beer and bring it with you! Cost is $20 per person for adults, less for children, under 5 free. This event is very family friendly, there are usually a lot of children running around, playing and dancing!
Thursdays: Main Street, Falmouth, during the day. Enjoy the Falmouth Farmers Market! Lots of fresh foods and much, much more!
Thursday night, Falmouth Harbor, enjoy a free concert at the new, wonderful Marine Park Bandshell!
Fridays: Back to the Coonemesset Farm for another great buffet and live music! This is the vegetarian buffet, which for some reason includes pulled pork. Very children friendly (see Wednesdays above). Highly recommended.
